What is a work permit?
- A work permit is an official document issued by the Ministry of Labour and Vocational Training (MLVT) that authorizes foreign nationals to work legally in Cambodia.

The initial requirement is to obtain a work visa from the Department of Immigration. This visa can be applied for through a Cambodian Embassy in the applicant’s country of residence or obtained prior to arrival in Cambodia, and is valid for 30 days.
Due to regulatory changes, applicants are advised to secure the appropriate visa before travelling to Cambodia.
Who is eligible for a work permit?
Foreign nationals applying for a work permit in Cambodia must satisfy the following conditions:

- ☑ Hold a passport with a minimum validity of six months
- ☑ Be free from communicable diseases

Both the employer and employee are required to provide supporting documentation, as outlined below.
Documents provided by the employee
- Full name, gender, date of birth, and height
- Copy of passport and identification documents
- Copy of a valid E-visa or work visa
- Current residential address in Cambodia
- Educational qualifications
- Recent photograph
- Medical or health certificate
- Job position and role description
Documents required from the sponsoring employer
- Certificate of incorporation bearing the company stamp
- Registered business address
- Valid tax patent with company stamp
- List of foreign and local employees (foreign employee ratio must not be lower than 1:9)
- Articles of incorporation stamped by the Ministry of Commerce
Application process and timeline
How to apply for a work permit in Cambodia
The foreign employee must first obtain a work visa through a Cambodian Embassy or approved visa application channel prior to entering Cambodia.
Upon arrival, the work visa may be extended to a one-year visa.
After the work visa is secured, an application for a work permit can be submitted.
Work permit applications are filed online via the MLVT’s Foreign Workers Centralised Management System, together with the required employer and employee information.
The application process generally takes between 15 and 20 working days.
The issued work permit is valid for one year and expires on 31 December of the year of issuance. Renewal must be completed between 1 January and 31 March of the following year.
Applications submitted after 1 April may be subject to penalties.
